3.09 million wallets have traded on Polymarket — and $48.4M in stablecoins sits right now in traders’ accounts that have been completely silent for over three months. We ran a census over the platform’s entire trading history, plus a live balance scan of every trading wallet. Here is how Polymarket grew, and what got left behind.
From 8,800 traders to 3.1 million in under three years
The growth curve barely needs commentary:

- At the end of 2023, all of Polymarket was 8,773 traders. All of 2023 added 8,354 — about two days of user acquisition at the 2026 pace.
- 2024 added 641,678 traders — most of them in the US-election wave (October 2024 → January 2025 alone brought ~712k).
- 2025 added 1,128,896. And 2026 has already added 1,313,203 in seven months — more than all of last year.
- Acquisition runs at ~4,375 new traders per day over the last 90 days, against an all-time average of 2,306. The record day: 14,844 (December 30, 2024).
The wave pattern matches the volume story exactly: the biggest new-trader days are Election Day 2024, the shutdown deadline of January 31, and the Iran-arc surges of February 2026. The same news that drives volume recruits the users. People do not discover prediction markets — events introduce them.
The money the tide left behind
Growth like that has a shadow: traders who arrive, play, and go silent — with cash still in the account. We read live stablecoin balances (pUSD, USDC.e, USDC) for every wallet directly from our node in one 3.5-minute Multicall3 pass — and, to keep every dollar attributable, we count only wallets that have placed at least one real trade: the strictest possible definition of a Polymarket user. “Forgotten” means zero on-chain activity of any kind — no trade, no redeem, no transfer — for months:

- Quiet > 3 months: $48.4M.
- Quiet > 6 months: $20.6M.
- Quiet > 12 months: $8.5M. Quiet > 24 months: $0.6M.
- Almost none of it is professional: bot and market-maker accounts hold only ~$1.6M of the >6-month bucket. The forgotten money is overwhelmingly retail — about $19M across 602k small wallets.
The biggest forgotten accounts
These are real, checkable balances — retail traders with genuine histories who walked away (quiet for 6+ months, contracts and market makers excluded):
| Wallet | Idle cash | Traded | Fills |
|---|---|---|---|
0x5fc0…ae77 | $320,853 | Dec 25–28, 2025 — four days | 214 |
0xb506…8f79 | $319,326 | Oct 2024 – Jul 2025 | 1,778 |
0x8e88…0670 | $174,941 | Feb 2025 – Jan 2026 | 1,757 |
0x662f…fa84 | $103,710 | Apr 28–30, 2025 — three days | 181 |
0xa86c…36f7 | $74,970 | Oct 21, 2025 — one single day | 24 |
The top one is remarkable: $320,853, untouched since December — a wallet that traded for exactly four days around Christmas and never came back. Another traded one single day in October and left $75K. Whatever these stories are — lost keys, forgotten accounts, someone’s rainy-day stash — the money just sits there, visible to anyone who looks.
One honest caveat: this counts cash only. Unredeemed winning shares — outcome tokens in dormant wallets that resolved in their favor and were never cashed in — are additional forgotten value on top, and a census of those needs a separate scan we have not run yet.
Dormant is not dead
Here is why this matters beyond curiosity: a forgotten wallet waking up is one of the sharpest signals on the platform. When an account silent for a year suddenly deposits, or a $300K sleeper places a trade, that is not noise — someone remembered, or someone decided. Those wake-ups print in the live stream as ordinary deposits and trades; a watchlist of heavy dormant wallets is a few lines on top of the deposit feed. And the census itself — every number here — came from running the full history ourselves: 1,356 daily parquet files and one balance scan, no API, no sampling.
The platform grew 350× in three years, and its history is public down to the last idle dollar. The tape that recorded all of it is the same one streaming right now.
